1939 New York Yankees
106-45 with the highest run differential in baseball history at plus-411. Joe DiMaggio hit .381, Bill Dickey and Joe Gordon backed him up, and the Yankees swept the Reds for their fourth straight World Series.
1998 New York Yankees
114-48 and one of the deepest rosters ever assembled. Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, and Mariano Rivera went 11-2 in October and swept the Padres for title number 24.
1927 New York Yankees
Murderers' Row. Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs, Lou Gehrig drove in 175, and the Yankees rode a .714 record and a plus-376 run differential to a four-game sweep of the Pirates in the Series.
1906 Chicago Cubs
116-36, a .763 winning percentage that nobody has touched since. Frank Chance, Tinker, and Evers ran the National League, then lost a stunning World Series to their crosstown rival White Sox.
1961 New York Yankees
The home-run race year. Roger Maris hit 61 to break Ruth's record, Mickey Mantle hit 54 alongside him, Whitey Ford went 25-4, and the Yankees finished 109-53 before beating the Reds in five.
2001 Seattle Mariners
116-46 to tie the all-time wins record, with Ichiro Suzuki taking Rookie of the Year and MVP in his first season. The dream ended in a six-game ALCS loss to the Yankees.
2022 Los Angeles Dodgers
111-51, the franchise's modern-era wins record, with Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman anchoring a complete roster. A shocking NLDS loss to the rival Giants was the only flaw on the year.
2020 Los Angeles Dodgers
The pandemic-shortened season produced a juggernaut. The Dodgers' .717 winning percentage was the best in baseball since 1954, and they finally cashed in with a World Series title over the Rays.
1902 Pittsburgh Pirates
103-36 and a .741 winning percentage, the best of the modern era. Honus Wagner anchored the lineup and Pittsburgh finished 27.5 games ahead of second place in the National League.
1954 Cleveland Indians
111-43, the American League winning-percentage record that still stands. Three Hall of Fame starters (Wynn, Lemon, Feller) led a juggernaut that lost a stunning Series sweep to Willie Mays and the Giants.
