Swap two fruit next to each other to line up three or more of the same fruit. They squash, everything above falls, and new fruit drops in from the top.
Everyone gets the same board today, and the same fruit drops into each column. You have five minutes, and the clock starts on your first swap.
Swap as much as you like until the clock runs out. A swap that makes no match just slides back.
- Drag a fruit onto its neighbour, or tap one and then the one beside it. On a keyboard, the arrows move a cursor, Enter picks a fruit up, and an arrow swaps it. Pause (or P) stops the clock and covers the board.
- Bigger matches make special fruit. Four in a line makes a slicer that clears its whole row or column. An L or a T makes a bomb that clears the squares around it. Five in a line makes a punch bowl: swap it with any fruit and every fruit of that kind goes.
- Swap two specials together for a combo: two slicers clear a cross, a slicer and a bomb clear three rows and three columns, two bombs clear a 5x5, and two punch bowls clear the whole board.
The knack: Fruit that falls makes new matches on its own, and every one of those pays more than the last: the second wave scores double, the third triple. Work near the bottom of the board to shake more loose, and save your specials for a combo, but keep swapping: a run is five minutes, not a number of moves.
Scored on POINTS: every fruit squashed is 10 points, times the wave it fell in, plus a bonus for each special you make (60 for a slicer, 100 for a bomb, 200 for a punch bowl). 12,200 is par for the day, and there is no ceiling. You can play the day as many times as you like, because Squash keeps your BEST run. Ties break on fewer swaps. Squash pays at most 1 IQ point a day however many runs you play. The Sunday Edition is the same five minutes on a bigger 9x9 board.
