About Crib
The throw is the decision in cribbage that can be worked out exactly. Every hand begins with it: six cards, and two of them go to the crib, a second hand that belongs to the dealer. Keep the wrong four and you pay for it every deal.
Most players keep the four that look best and throw whatever is left. That is right about two times in three. The other third are hands where the crib decides it: a five or a pair that is worth more in your own crib than in your hand, or a card you must not hand to your opponent even though your four would score more with it gone.
Every throw is valued over all 46 cut cards and every pair of cards the opponent could throw, and the numbers are checked by a second, separate scorer before a deal ships. More card dailies: Hands, Shoe, Finesse, Taire.
