Sumo is ready

An ordinary sudoku, plus signs: each line inside a box bends into a point aimed at the smaller of its two squares. Rows, columns and boxes still hold 1 to 9 exactly once.

About Sumo

Sumo is a free daily greater-than sudoku from Mind Loft, the variant also called inequality sudoku. Each day gives you a 9×9 grid with the usual three rules, rows, columns and 3×3 boxes each holding 1 through 9 once, plus a sign on every edge inside a box saying which of its two squares holds the bigger digit. That is 108 signs, and they carry so much of the puzzle that the board prints almost no digits at all.

The signs are drawn into the grid itself: each line inside a box bends into a small point, and the point always aims at the smaller square, the way a less-than or greater-than sign does. Box borders stay straight. There is no arithmetic, only order. A 1 can only go where every bend around it points in, a 9 only where every bend points out, and a chain of squares stepping down inside a box tells you how high the top of it must be. Every board has a single solution you can always reach by logic, with no guessing. Wrong entries are never flagged, so spotting your own slips is part of the puzzle, and a clean solve scores a perfect 10 with the daily leaderboard decided on the clock.

A new board drops every day at midnight Eastern. Monday prints eight digits, then six, four and two, and Friday prints none; Saturday prints two but needs harder logic, and the Sunday Edition prints nothing but the signs. Sumo also takes its turn as the variant in Enter the Dojo. No app, no signup, play free in your browser. Want the rest of the family? Try Suds, the classic 9×9, Mercury, the thermo sudoku, Polka, the kropki with dots for clues, and Diag, the diagonal sudoku.
