1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers
Back-to-back national champions who won the 'Game of the Century' over No. 2 Oklahoma and crushed No. 2 Alabama 38-6 in the Orange Bowl. Bob Devaney's Huskers ranked near the top of the country on both sides of the ball and remain a frequent pick as the greatest team ever.
2001 Miami Hurricanes
Stacked with 38 future NFL draft picks, including Ed Reed, Clinton Portis and Bryant McKinnie, the Canes allowed under 10 points a game and beat five top-15 teams. Many analysts still call this the most talented roster in college football history.
1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers
Tom Osborne's masterpiece scored 35-plus in every game and outscored opponents by nearly 39 a night. Tommie Frazier's option attack obliterated No. 2 Florida 62-24 in the Fiesta Bowl to seal a second straight title.
1972 USC Trojans
Widely regarded as one of the most complete teams ever, the Trojans won 11 of 12 games by at least 17 points and closed with a 42-17 Rose Bowl rout of No. 3 Ohio State. Five players earned All-America honors on a perfect 12-0 season.
2019 LSU Tigers
Joe Burrow's record-smashing season, 60 touchdown passes and a single-season-record 726 points, carried LSU past seven top-10 teams. The most prolific offense the sport had seen finished 15-0 with a 42-25 win over Clemson for the title.
2018 Clemson Tigers
The first team of the modern era to finish 15-0, and it got better every week. True freshman Trevor Lawrence and a ferocious defense closed the year by routing Notre Dame and dismantling a No. 1 Alabama 44-16 for the title.
2004 USC Trojans
Pete Carroll's wire-to-wire No. 1, led by Heisman winner Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush, blew out Oklahoma 55-19 for the crown. The BCS title was later vacated by the NCAA, but the talent and dominance still rate among the all-time best.
2025 Indiana Hoosiers
College football's most improbable champion, Curt Cignetti's Hoosiers became the first team since 1894 Yale to finish 16-0, capping it with a 27-21 win over Miami. A Big Ten title over Ohio State and a Rose Bowl rout of Alabama silenced every doubter.
2005 Texas Longhorns
Vince Young authored perhaps the greatest title-game performance ever, a 467-yard tour de force to beat USC 41-38 in the Rose Bowl and end the Trojans' three-peat bid. The 13-0 Longhorns scored an NCAA-record 652 points behind one of the sport's most electric players.
2020 Alabama Crimson Tide
Nick Saban's final national champion, a 13-0 juggernaut that beat Ohio State 52-24 for the title. Heisman receiver DeVonta Smith, quarterback Mac Jones and back Najee Harris powered a record-setting offense through a pandemic season played entirely against SEC competition.
