The Commodore
A Williamsburg bar that straddles the line between dive and neighborhood restaurant, known for loaded nachos, frozen daiquiris, and a jukebox that leans toward classic rock and R&B. The kitchen runs late, which keeps it packed well past midnight.
Duff's Brooklyn
Williamsburg's legendary heavy metal dive, its walls plastered in framed show flyers, signed drumheads, and memorabilia from Black Sabbath, Pantera, and Slayer. PBRs run $1 during the 6-to-9 p.m. happy hour, seven days a week.
Skinny Dennis
A honky-tonk dive on Metropolitan Avenue with live country music most nights, peanut shells on the floor, and a long bar that stays busy until last call. The antithesis of the rooftop-bar Williamsburg that surrounds it.
Turkey's Nest
A cash-only Bedford Avenue dive since the 1980s, most famous for margaritas and sangria served in styrofoam cups you can carry across the street to McCarren Park. One of the last unreconstructed dives in a neighborhood that mostly gentrified around it.
Rocka Rolla
A Williamsburg bar with a devoted following among rock and metal fans, known for a jukebox that skews loud, cheap beer, and a darkness that feels earned rather than designed. No frills, no pretense.
R Bar
A dark, unfussy bar on Metropolitan Avenue with pool tables and a long-running reputation as a neighborhood anchor. Unpretentious enough that regulars have been coming for decades without it ever feeling like an event.
Sharlene's
A lesbian-owned dive bar on Broadway with a welcoming, no-attitude atmosphere and nightly DJs spinning across genres. One of the more inclusive rooms in a neighborhood with a shifting bar scene.
Clem's
A low-key Grand Street dive that holds its own against newer, louder neighbors by doing the basics correctly: cheap drinks, a good jukebox, and no cover. A reliable retreat for those who prefer conversation to spectacle.
Boobie Trap
A dive bar and party spot on Grand Street known for its irreverent atmosphere, theme nights, and the kind of crowd that has no interest in cocktail menus. Cheap, loud, and unapologetic about both.
Pete's Candy Store
The back-room music venue and bar on Lorimer Street where Williamsburg's live-music culture began in 1999. The front bar is a narrow, pressed-tin affair; the back room fits about 75 people and has hosted thousands of sets.
