Café de Dokter (Centrum)
Amsterdam's smallest bar, run by the same family since 1798, lit by candles and crowded with antiques. A jenever here feels like drinking inside a museum cabinet.

A family-run cafe and bottle shop on Utrechtsestraat dating to the 18th century, with jenever from the cask and a clientele of lifers.

In 't Aepjen (Centrum)
A 16th-century brown bar with a wooden facade leaning over Zeedijk and a story about sailors trading monkeys for drinks. One of the oldest buildings in the city and one of its most atmospheric pours.
