The Lion King
Disney's adaptation became the first Broadway show to cross $2 billion in cumulative grosses and is still running after more than 11,000 performances since 1997. Across all productions worldwide it has earned over $8 billion.
Wicked
Still running after two decades and boosted further by the 2024-2025 film duology, the Oz prequel has grossed over $1.8 billion on Broadway and been seen by nearly 65 million people worldwide.
The Phantom of the Opera
Andrew Lloyd Webber's gothic romance was the longest-running show in Broadway history when it closed in 2023 after nearly 14,000 performances, grossing over $1.36 billion.
Hamilton
Lin-Manuel Miranda's hip-hop history reached $1 billion in Broadway grosses faster than almost any predecessor, and won 11 Tony Awards plus the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The Book of Mormon
The satirical musical from the creators of South Park and Avenue Q has grossed about $878 million since 2011 and won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Chicago (1996 revival)
The 1996 revival is the longest-running American musical and the longest-running revival in Broadway history, accounting for the bulk of the show's roughly $841 million in grosses.
Aladdin
Disney's second entry in the top ten is still running on Broadway and has grossed about $761 million since 2014.
Mamma Mia!
The ABBA jukebox musical combined a 14-year original run with a 2025 revival to total roughly $670 million in Broadway grosses.
Jersey Boys
The Four Seasons bio-musical grossed about $558 million over its 2005-2017 run and won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical.
Les Miserables
The Boublil and Schonberg epic has grossed about $515 million across its original run and two revivals, a figure understated because its 1980s and 1990s run predates complete Broadway League data.
