Rear Window (1954)
A photographer stuck in a wheelchair, a courtyard of strangers, and a murder he cannot prove. Hitchcock turns voyeurism itself into the engine of suspense, with James Stewart and Grace Kelly at their most magnetic.
Psycho (1960)
The shower scene rewrote what audiences could be shown, and the Bates Motel never checked out of the culture. Hitchcock's lean black-and-white shocker remains the most influential horror film ever made.
Vertigo (1958)

Notorious (1946)
Ingrid Bergman marries into a nest of postwar Nazis while Cary Grant watches, and love curdles into espionage. Many critics call it Hitchcock's most perfect fusion of romance and suspense.
Rebecca (1940)
Hitchcock's first Hollywood film and his only Best Picture winner, a gothic dream of Manderley where a dead wife rules every room. Judith Anderson's Mrs. Danvers remains one of cinema's great villains.
Shadow of a Doubt (1943)
Hitchcock's own stated favorite: beloved Uncle Charlie arrives in sunny Santa Rosa trailing the Merry Widow murders behind him. Small-town America has never looked so quietly sinister.
Strangers on a Train (1951)
Two men meet on a train, and one of them believes they have agreed to swap murders. Robert Walker's Bruno is among the great screen psychopaths, and the carousel finale is pure Hitchcock.
