Best Breweries on the NYC Subway System

Hazy double IPAs, mixed-culture saisons, and crisp lagers poured a short walk from the turnstiles. Every taproom here sits within easy reach of a subway stop, so you can ride the rails from Gowanus to Astoria and never need a designated driver.

  1. 1

    Other Half Brewing (Gowanus)

The brewery that made hazy IPAs a New York religion, founded in Brooklyn in 2014 by brewmaster Sam Richardson. Julius-generation dankness still anchors the lineup, with can releases drawing lines around the block on drop days.

  2. 2

    Evil Twin Brewing (Ridgewood)

Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsoe's NYC outpost brews all its beer on-site at a greenhouse-style taproom in Ridgewood, one block from the Halsey L. Twenty rotating taps span smoothie-style sours, oak-aged lagers, pastry seltzers, and bright hoppy ales.

  3. 3

    Grimm Artisanal Ales (East Williamsburg)

Named New York State Brewery of the Year five times running, Grimm is the city's most decorated producer of IPAs, sour ales, stouts, and lagers. The Metropolitan Ave taproom serves the freshest pours alongside some of the most ambitious barrel-aging in NYC.

  4. 4

    SingleCut Beersmiths (Astoria)

The first production brewery in Queens since Prohibition, founded in 2012 when Rich Buceta sold his vintage guitar collection to buy the tanks. Known for music-themed releases, hazy East Coast IPAs, and European-style lagers poured in a spacious taproom steps from the N/W.

  5. 5

    Finback Brewery (Glendale)

A Queens brewery known for adventurous, hop-forward beers and a respected barrel-aging program, Finback has grown from a Glendale warehouse into one of the city's most admired craft names. Its taprooms pour an ever-rotating lineup of hazy IPAs, stouts, and experimental sours.

  6. 6

Fifth Hammer Brewing Company (Long Island City)

A community-focused taproom in LIC with vintage hammers as tap handles and a rotating cast of adventurous drafts, from blueberry sours to cucumber saisons. Head brewer Chris Cuzme is a prolific collaborator across the city's craft scene.

  7. 7

    Wild East Brewing Co. (Gowanus)

A Gowanus taproom that blends classic European brewing tradition with modern American craft, producing Czech-style pilsners, farmhouse ales, mixed-fermentation saisons, and barrel-aged sours. The flagship Czech Pilsner, Patience + Fortitude, is a benchmark for the style in NYC.

  8. 8

    Eckhart Beer Co. (Bushwick)

A Bushwick newcomer specializing in a tight lineup of five Central European lagers, with a Bavarian beer-hall interior and a food menu built to pair. Head brewer Adam Wolfe studied lagers in Germany and holds a diploma from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling.

  9. 9

LIC Beer Project (Long Island City)

A Long Island City warehouse taproom pouring saturated double IPAs and mixed-culture saisons a few blocks off the 7 train. Its ten best beers average 4.19 on BeerAdvocate, quietly elite for a brewery this under-the-radar.

  10. 10

    Kings County Brewers Collective (Bushwick)

Bushwick's first production brewery in four decades when it opened in 2016, KCBC pours wildly labeled IPAs, lagers, and sours beneath some of the best can art in beer. The carnival-dark taproom sits steps from the Jefferson St L stop.
