The GOAT debate, settled by consensus. Six decades of greatness, from Russell's rings to Jordan's perfection to LeBron's longevity, ranked across the experts who argue about it for a living.
Michael Jordan
Six titles in six Finals trips, six Finals MVPs, five regular-season MVPs and a Defensive Player of the Year, with no Game 7 loss in the Finals. The consensus GOAT and the standard every guard since has been measured against.
LeBron James
The all-time leading scorer, a four-time champion and four-time MVP across 22-plus seasons, including the 3-1 comeback over a 73-win Warriors team in 2016. The longevity and all-around brilliance that several modern panels now rank first.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Six MVPs, six championships and the unstoppable skyhook that made him the league's leading scorer for almost four decades. The most decorated individual resume the game has produced.
Magic Johnson
A 6-foot-9 point guard who started Game 6 of the Finals at center as a rookie and dropped 42 to clinch the title. Five championships, three MVPs and the showman who, with Bird, revived the league in the 1980s.
Bill Russell
Eleven championships in thirteen seasons, the greatest winner in American team sports and the defensive genius the Finals MVP trophy is named after. Undefeated in winner-take-all Game 7s.
Wilt Chamberlain
The most statistically dominant force the game has seen, owner of the 100-point game, a 50.4-point season and records no one will approach. The league rewrote its rulebook to try to contain him.
Larry Bird
Three straight MVPs, three titles and a cold-blooded, trash-talking scorer who read the floor a beat before everyone else. The defining small forward of his era and a cornerstone of the 1980s revival.
Kobe Bryant
Five championships, an MVP, two Finals MVPs and an 81-point game, built on a famously relentless work ethic. Both Magic and Shaq called him the greatest Laker ever.
Tim Duncan
The Big Fundamental anchored five titles across three decades in San Antonio with quiet, machine-like consistency. Three Finals MVPs and a playoff resume that lifts him above every other power forward.
Shaquille O'Neal
The most physically dominant big man ever, a three-peat Finals MVP whose blend of size, power and agility drew double-teams and rule tweaks alike. Simply unstoppable in the post at his peak.
