La Folie Douce (Val d'Isère, France)
Perched at 2,400 metres atop the La Daille gondola, La Folie Douce invented the mountain-terrace party format: international DJs, live performers, and champagne flowing from first chair through late afternoon. The original Val d'Isere venue is the template every imitator follows.
Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro (Aspen Highlands, USA)
Reached only via the Cloud Nine Lift with the Maroon Bells as backdrop, this European-style cabin offers raclette and fondue at lunch before transforming into Aspen's most boisterous apres at 2pm, with champagne spraying and ski-boot dancing on the south-facing deck. Adults only for the afternoon party.
Hennu Stall (Zermatt, Switzerland)
A legendary apres-ski hut at the bottom of the Furi slope, accessible on skis from the glacier and open from 3pm with DJs, live bands, and the house specialty caramel vodka. Many regulars consider it the best apres bar in Europe.
The Sundeck (Aspen, USA)
Sitting at the top of the Silver Queen Gondola on Aspen Mountain, the Sundeck is operated by The Little Nell and pairs 30-foot ceilings and a giant rock fireplace with sweeping views of 14,000-foot peaks. The full bar and made-to-order lunch menu make it the most refined on-mountain perch in town.
Elk Camp (Snowmass, USA)
Snowmass's signature on-mountain restaurant sits atop the Elk Camp Gondola, with a graceful curved-roof design and decks for 150 guests. Lunch runs to rotisserie, house-made pizza, and a full bar; Friday nights in peak season the gondola runs for Ullr Night parties under the stars.
Paznauer Taja (Ischgl, Austria)
At 2,000 metres in the heart of the Ischgl ski area, the Taja holds the "Best Apres Ski Hut" award from the Top of the Mountains Awards. DJs work the panorama terrace from early afternoon, and the bar pours mulled wine and Jagertee until the party ski down to the valley at 4pm.
Gorrono Ranch (Telluride, USA)
A mid-mountain Telluride landmark built on an 1880s Basque sheepherding homestead, with a sprawling sun deck that fills for BBQ lunches, frozen margaritas, and live afternoon bands. Reached on skis from the Village, it hosts some of the liveliest apres in the San Juans.
Merry-Go-Round (Aspen Highlands, USA)
A mid-mountain meeting point at Aspen Highlands, reached from the top of the Exhibition Lift, with a full bar, Adirondack chairs on the deck, and a roaring fireplace inside. Casual and central, it is where Highlands regulars regroup mid-day and settle in for apres.
Tio Bob's (Portillo, Chile)
Accessed via the Plateau chairlift above Portillo's legendary yellow hotel, Tio Bob's is a stone cabin with a panoramic deck overlooking Inca Lake and the high Andes. Named after resort founder Henry Purcell's uncle, it draws guests to spend entire afternoons over Chilean wine, grilled meats, and the resort's signature burger.
Schnapshans Bar (Zell am See, Austria)
Sitting at 2,000 metres on the Schmittenhöhe with views of 30 three-thousand-metre peaks, Schnapshans is the Austrian answer to La Folie Douce: a vast sun terrace, live DJs from early afternoon, and Jagertee flowing freely. Two floors of rustic-hut interior keep the party going on colder days.
