Sky Team
The 2024 Spiel des Jahres game of the year, a cooperative cockpit where you and your partner silently place dice to land a passenger jet through turbulence, traffic, and snowstorms. Buyers find it exciting every time they play with excellent replay value, easy to learn with several adjustable difficulty levels, and built around the kind of communication and coordination that rewards two people who already know each other well.
Patchwork
Uwe Rosenberg's beloved quilting puzzle for two, spending buttons and time to fit Tetris-style fabric pieces onto your 9-by-9 board while your partner does the same. Buyers call it a great two-player game that is fairly easy to learn and perfect for date night, with deceptive strategic depth that rewards play after play.
7 Wonders Duel
Antoine Bauza's two-player adaptation of 7 Wonders, drafting cards from a tableau to build wonders and chase a military, scientific, or victory-points win in about 30 minutes. Reviewers call it engaging with multiple ways to win, a great combination of luck and strategy, and enormous replayability through different wonders and progress tokens.
Timber Town
A 2025 release from Alley Cat Games where rival beavers grab building tiles drifting downriver to populate the loveliest settlement, with the row each tile is drafted from dictating where it must be placed. Reviewers call it a fantastic 2-player strategy game with a charming theme and a fresh river-drafting mechanic that adds real depth to tile placement.
Wingspan
Elizabeth Hargrave's award-winning engine-builder where you draft a wildlife preserve full of beautifully illustrated birds, each with unique scoring powers. Customers find it an interesting deep strategy game with stunning artwork and multiple strategies to explore, and well worth the money even if the rules take a few plays to fully grasp.
Splendor
A Renaissance-themed engine-builder where you stockpile gem chips to buy development cards, build trade combos, and chase 15 prestige points across 30-minute games. Buyers call it engaging and addictive with simple rules accessible to all ages, while still offering strategic depth that keeps experienced players entertained.
Azul
A drafting game where you and your partner snap chunky resin tiles into the patterned wall of a Portuguese palace, balancing color collection against overflow penalties. Reviewers find it enjoyable and easy to learn with a good balance of strategy and luck, and the beautiful pieces and clacking tiles are praised as a feast for the senses.
Pandemic
The cooperative classic, where you and your partner crisscross the globe to research cures before four outbreaks tip the world into collapse. Customers love its cooperative nature where everyone works to beat the game, the depth of strategy between different role combinations, and the replay value, though some find the higher difficulties incredibly challenging.
Disney Villainous
An asymmetric Ravensburger battle where you each play a Disney villain with their own deck and unique objective, sabotaging the other's path while pursuing your own evil ending. Customers call it fun for the family with high-quality components and beautiful artwork, though they note the learning curve is steep since each villain plays very differently.
Harmonies
Libellud's 2024 tile-drafter where you stack colored hex pieces to compose a tiny habitat that attracts woodland animals from a row of objective cards. Buyers consistently rate it among the best new games for couples, strategic and poetic with gorgeous components, and easy to teach in a single 30-minute sitting.
