J's Flying Pizza (Bridgewater)
A takeout-only operation run out of a garage in Bridgewater, J's has earned a devoted following for its cracker-thin bar pies with the classic cheddar bite and crispy, laced edges. The linguica pizza is consistently singled out as among the best in the tradition.
Cape Cod Cafe (Brockton)
The originator of the South Shore bar pie, Cape Cod Cafe has been making ten-inch cheddar-cheese pies with homemade oregano sauce since the 1940s and was inducted into the Pizza Hall of Fame. Third-generation owner Jeremy Jamoulis keeps the recipe exactly as it was, and the cafe is one of only two original bar pie joints still operating from the tradition's heyday.
Lynwood Cafe (Randolph)
The most storied name in South Shore bar pizza, Lynwood is cash-only and no-frills and rated number one restaurant in Randolph on TripAdvisor. The crispy, grease-kissed pies with linguica or the cult Baked Bean Special, topped with Boston baked beans, onions, and salami, are the kind of thing people make day trips for.
Tinrays Family Restaurant (Brockton)
A Brockton bar pie institution serving the cracker-thin, cheddar-topped South Shore classic to generations of regulars. The straightforward, no-frills setting is precisely the kind of neighborhood spot the tradition was born in.
Town Spa Pizza (Stoughton)
Open since 1955 when Henry Phillips brought his pizza-making reputation from Randolph to Stoughton, Town Spa is an old-school hangout known for soft, flaky bar pies, crinkle-cut fries, and Wing Dings. The thin, cheddar-cheese pies and the unhurried dining room have made it a Stoughton fixture for seven decades.
Poopsie's (Pembroke)
A beloved Pembroke bar pie spot that keeps the South Shore tradition alive in one of the tradition's outer-ring towns. Thin crust, cheddar-forward, charred edges, and a loyal regular crowd are the constants.
Venus Cafe (Whitman)
A Whitman stalwart in the South Shore bar pie belt, Venus Cafe delivers the classic cracker-thin, cheddar-topped pie that defines the tradition to a tight-knit regular clientele.
Hoey's Pizza (Randolph)
A longtime Randolph entry in the bar pie tradition, Hoey's turns out the essential South Shore format: ten-inch pans, thin dough, cheddar cheese run to the charred edge, oregano-spiked sauce. Randolph is bar pie ground zero and Hoey's has been part of that story for decades.
Alumni Pizza (Quincy)
A Quincy bar pie shop that extends the South Shore tradition into the northern edge of the region, close enough to Boston that it serves as many southbound commuters as it does locals. The thin, crispy, cheddar-forward pies are true to form.
The Next Page Cafe (Weymouth)
A Weymouth spot where the South Shore bar pie lives alongside a neighborhood cafe atmosphere, drawing regulars who grew up on the style and transplants who discover it for the first time. The cracker crust and cheddar blend are the draw.
