Little Donkey (Central Square)

Mr. Bartley's (Harvard Square)
Harvard Square's landmark burger cottage, open since 1960 across the street from Harvard Yard, serving griddle-cooked patties with a menu of pop-culture-named toppings. A filming location for both Good Will Hunting and The Social Network, it won Boston Magazine's Best Burger in 2000, 2003, and 2008.
jm Curley (Downtown)
A downtown bar and grill that has been serving its Curley Burger since 2011, a caramelized-onion, cheddar, pickle, and Pop's Russian Dressing classic on a sesame seed bun. Boston Magazine named it Best Burger in 2023.
Bred Gourmet (Dorchester)
Dorchester's Caribbean and Creole-inspired smash burger shop, founded by Trinidadian-Bajan chef Tambo Barrow, known for grass-fed Maine beef seasoned and pressed on the grill. The Maui burger, piled with pineapple, smoked ham, habanero pepperjack, sweet plantains, and barbecue sauce, won Boston Best Burger in 2021.
Gray's Hall (South Boston)
The South Boston wine bar from the American Provisions team, where the smashed cheeseburger under shredded lettuce became the neighborhood's most coveted order.
Highland Kitchen (Somerville)
Somerville's beloved neighborhood bar, where the burger arrives with a mountain of fries and a side of slaw. A Boston Globe Best of the Best pick.
Moonshine 152 (South Boston)
Chef Asia Mei's South Boston corner spot, a Time Out pick whose burger earns some of the highest ratings in the city on both Yelp and Google.
