Chad and Hanna Williams's townhouse tasting-menu restaurant off Rittenhouse Square earned a Michelin star in Philadelphia's first guide and ranks No. 16 in North America on the World's 50 Best list. Technical, seasonal, deeply personal cooking upstairs; à la carte FSS classics and brilliant cocktails in the leopard-print Lovers Bar below. Google 4.7.
Provenance (Society Hill)
Chef Nicholas Bazik's intimate 22-seat Society Hill counter, which nabbed a Michelin star in November 2025. A 20-to-25-course tasting rooted in classical French technique with subtle Korean whispers, served with carefully synced, detail-obsessed hospitality — a perfect 5.0 on Yelp.
Her Place Supper Club (Rittenhouse)
Chef Amanda Shulman's reservation-only BYOB supper club, a newly minted Michelin star that still feels like a dinner party. The multi-course set menu changes every couple of weeks, and Shulman personally brings dishes to the table and tells their stories — homey, warm, and one of the hardest seats in the city.
Mawn (Bella Vista)
Phila and Rachel Lorn's 28-seat Cambodian 'noodle house with no rules,' where Phila was named a Food & Wine Best New Chef and a James Beard honoree. Electric, nostalgic cooking — schmaltzy chicken-and-noodle soup, banh chow salad, fish-sauce-caramel shrimp — best experienced as a family-style feast. Google 4.8.
Ambra (Queen Village)
A 16-seat tasting-menu jewel from chef Chris D'Ambro (it shares a kitchen with sister restaurant Southwark), where a single creative Italian-inspired progression runs $86. Rustic dishes plated with precision; the Infatuation scores it 9.5, and it holds a 5.0 on Yelp.
Emmett (Fishtown)
Chef Evan Snyder's Fishtown room blending Levantine cooking with French, Italian, and North African flavors — Philadelphia Magazine called it the city's most inventive new restaurant. Tangy fruits, off-center pastas, woodsmoke, and a now-famous duck; Google 4.9.
Kalaya (Fishtown)
Chef Chutatip 'Nok' Suntaranon's ode to Southern Thai cooking, named No. 7 in North America (and Nok the continent's best female chef) by the 50 Best, plus a James Beard win and a Netflix Chef's Table episode. Royal-court dumplings, towering tom yum, and uncompromising chili heat in an airy, palm-filled Fishtown space.
Vetri Cucina (Midtown Village)
Marc Vetri's 27-year temple to Italian fine dining in a historic Spruce Street townhouse, where a flawless tasting menu and a coveted monthly 'pasta omakase' show one of the city's kitchen godfathers still pushing limits. Gracious service and a deep Italian cellar; Google 4.8.
Illata (Graduate Hospital)
Chef Aaron Randi's intimate 20-seat BYOB, a rare throwback to the mom-and-pop gems that once powered Philly dining. Daily house-baked sourdough, a Comté-fuzzy chicory salad, and seasonal seafood — simple, elegant, and never showy — in a spare, candlelit room. Google 4.9.
Royal Sushi & Izakaya (Queen Village)
Chef Jesse Ito sets Philadelphia's omakase gold standard at a 16-seat counter that's next-to-impossible to book, where his toro-carving artistry and sake pairings run $355. Out front, the lively Royal Izakaya tavern serves walk-ins comprehensive drinks and some of the best vegetables in town.
