Two MICHELIN stars, century-old Creole institutions, and a new generation of Senegalese, Mexican, and modern American cooking. From the Garden District to Bywater, these are the tables that define eating in the Big Easy.
Emeril's (Warehouse District)
Emeril Lagasse's flagship earned two MICHELIN stars in the inaugural American South guide, with son E.J. Lagasse running the kitchen. Refined Creole tasting menus, from BBQ shrimp tarts to deep-flavored gumbo, in a gleaming glass-fronted dining room.
Saint-Germain (Bywater)
A one-MICHELIN-star tasting-menu stunner hidden behind a Bywater natural wine bar and garden patio. Chefs Blake Aguillard and Trey Smith send out an eight to ten course parade of technical, bold-flavored dishes that changes monthly.
Zasu (Mid-City)
Sue Zemanick's intimate Mid-City cottage earned a MICHELIN star for tightly edited, seafood-focused contemporary cooking that blends Gulf Coast produce with French technique, served in a sleek green-and-gold dining room.
Acamaya (Bywater)
Ana Castro's Oaxacan-influenced Bywater seafood spot is a Bib Gourmand favorite and Eater's Best New Restaurant winner. Al pastor hamachi tostadas, masa dumplings with crab, and a dazzling cocktail program in a pastel-tiled room.
Cochon (Warehouse District)
Donald Link and Stephen Stryjewski's Bib Gourmand temple to Cajun cooking, where wood-fired oysters, fried alligator, and rabbit with dumplings shine. Southern food at its finest in a brick-and-wood Warehouse District room.
Dooky Chase Restaurant (Treme)
Leah Chase's legendary Treme institution, now led by her grandson, continues the Queen of Creole cuisine's legacy. Gumbo z'herbes, fried chicken, and a dazzling African-American art collection make it a Bib Gourmand landmark.
Atchafalaya (Irish Channel)
A beloved Irish Channel neighborhood restaurant known for creative modern Creole cooking, a buzzy bloody Mary brunch, and some of the best shrimp and grits in town. MICHELIN-recommended and packed with regulars.
Mister Mao (Uptown)
A lively, bubblegum-pink Uptown dining room serving genre-defying tropical-roadhouse cooking. Fried chicken dumplings and garlicky egg noodles earned a Bib Gourmand, and weekend brunch is a joyful free-for-all.
Dakar NOLA (Uptown)
Serigne Mbaye's Senegalese tasting-menu cottage won the 2024 James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant and landed at No. 6 on North America's 50 Best. Upscale West African dishes laced with Louisiana ingredients and transcendent hospitality.
GW Fins (French Quarter)
A French Quarter seafood mainstay for 25 years, where chef Michael Nelson dry-ages fish and dreams up lobster dumplings and scallop-crusted scalibut. Among the city's most consistently excellent fish kitchens.
