The full ranking
From a French-Southern landmark in Avondale to omakase in a Tinseltown strip mall, the Bold City rewards the curious eater. These are Jacksonville's best tables, by the consensus of its critics, its rating platforms, and its diners.
Restaurant Orsay (Avondale)
Jonathan Insetta's Avondale flagship pairs French bistro technique with a Southern accent, from house-made charcuterie and fresh oysters to a lobster pot pie crowned with a pink-peppercorn biscuit. Warm, unpretentious service and a deep wine list make it Jacksonville's go-to for a celebration.
Matthew's (San Marco)
A San Marco fine-dining landmark and longtime AAA Four-Diamond honoree, where chef Matthew Medure has set the city's standard for two decades. The Continental-leaning menu turns out dishes like lacquered duck and beef tenderloin with buttered-leek bordelaise in a quietly elegant room.
Mesa (Avondale)
Five years in, the chef still greets every table at this marigold-filled charmer blending South Indian flavor with Southern comfort, think shrimp and basmati grits, sticky wings, and naanchos. An inventive zero-proof bar, including a brown-butter tawny-port Manhattan, makes it one of Jacksonville's highest-rated rooms.
Othello (Springfield)
A Spanish and Mediterranean tapas newcomer in Springfield's Historic District, set in a moody, plant-draped dining room. Start with the warm harissa house bread and whipped feta, then graze on tahini-topped sweet potato and towering fried smelt, paired with amaro-forward cocktails on a string-lit patio.
Dockside Seafood Restaurant (Jacksonville Beach)
A longstanding, no-frills counter-service spot on the edge of the Jax Beach boat ramp, beloved for fresh local catch at honest prices. Order a combo basket of shrimp, scallops, and crab cakes, blackened, grilled, or fried, and grab a seat on the screened patio.
Marker 32 (Intracoastal West)
A First Coast fine-dining stalwart since 1992, marrying inventive Southern-coastal cooking with polished service on the Intracoastal Waterway. Sunset over the water and dishes like New Zealand lamb chops with saffron risotto keep regulars coming back year after year.
Chancho King (Murray Hill)
A former food truck turned Murray Hill favorite serving Ecuadorian street food rarely found in Jacksonville, anchored by a pork sandwich worth driving across town for. Natural wines at dinner and a weekly Ceviche Sundays feast back up the city's highest Yelp rating.
13 Gypsies (Riverside)
Dark, intimate, and fewer than ten tables, this Riverside tapas room is built for special occasions. Order a spread of small plates and a pitcher of sangria, save room for the daily risotto and the tres leches, and call ahead because it is gloriously offline.
bb's restaurant + bar (San Marco)
A much-loved San Marco mainstay near the Southbank, serving an American menu with global accents in a warm, buzzy room. The savory plates satisfy, but the glass case of cakes and confections is the main event.
Norikase (Tinseltown)
An unassuming Tinseltown strip-mall omakase that rivals big-city sushi counters, where ten seats share a two-hour experience built on hamachi toro and fatty tuna flown from Japan. Playful local touches, like a sinigang-miso hybrid, nod to Jacksonville's Filipino community.
