The full ranking
Houston Italian runs from Marco Wiles's benchmark fine dining at Da Marco to Benjy Levit's buzzy Milton's and the garden-to-table cooking of Coltivare. Hand-poured pastas at Giacomo's, tableside carbonara at Coppa Osteria and a wave of neighborhood gems define a scene the Texas MICHELIN Guide has yet to fully recognize. From Montrose to the Heights, these are Houston's essential Italian tables.
Milton's (Rice Village)
Restaurateur Benjy Levit and chef Seth Siegel-Gardner bring cheffy ambition to Italian-American comfort, a rotating 100-layer lasagna, mortadella-stuffed agnolotti and sourdough garlic knots with burrata and shaved truffle. Houston Press Best Italian 2025.
Amore Italian (Upper Kirby)
After 20 years as executive chef at Da Marco, Alfredo Mojica opened his own personal neighborhood Italian, the silky Spaghetti Harry's Bar, red-wine braised short ribs with burrata and simply grilled whole branzino.
Coltivare (The Heights)
Agricole Hospitality turned a Heights storefront into a lush garden-to-table Italian destination, patio tables within reach of raised-bed herb gardens. The bolognese tagliatelle and slow-roasted pork pizza are perennial must-orders.
Tiny Champions (EaDo)
The Nancy's Hustle team's EaDo room runs a small-but-mighty menu of fennel-sausage pizza and seasonal pastas like rigatoni bolognese, under a portrait of a stylish alligator. The anchovy pizza is a destination dish.
Trattoria Sofia (The Heights)
Berg Hospitality's Heights trattoria conjures a convincingly Italian atmosphere with a climate-controlled terrace like a tucked-away secret garden. Veal Milanese, campanelle lamb ragu and a fine prosciutto pizza stand out.
Da Marco (Montrose)
Chef-owner Marco Wiles built Houston's benchmark fine-Italian room over two decades, Venetian fried calf's liver, truffle-shaved pastas and ravioli cacio e pepe with bufala butter and guanciale. One of the city's most agile dining rooms.
Giacomo's Cibo e Vino (Upper Kirby)
Chef-owner Lynette Hawkins has run this cozy cicchetti room since 2009, every pasta poured by hand, spotlighting Italy's female and biodynamic winemakers. The spaghetti carbonara with guanciale and farm egg keeps the regulars coming back.
Amalfi Ristorante (Galleria)
Chef-owner Giancarlo Ferrara runs his Galleria-area room like a private Italian kitchen, pistachio-green ravioli with taleggio and truffle, salt-crusted tableside branzino and chitarra allo scoglio. It feels like crashing a very good family wedding.
Coppa Osteria (Rice Village)
A Rice Village standby with a tableside-broken-egg spaghetti carbonara, a fritto misto worth the carbs and an overnight-braised bolognese. White tablecloths and candlesticks bring just enough romance.
Rosalie Italian Soul (Downtown)
Top Chef Masters winner Chris Cosentino named this downtown hotel restaurant for his great-grandmother, bucatini carbonara and squid-ink spaghetti with scampi, Italian-American comfort food elevated with upscale polish.
