Fit the falling shapes together and complete a full row to clear it.
Scored on ROWS CLEARED, and you can play the day as many times as you like, because Blocks keeps your BEST run rather than your first: your score IS the number of rows you clear, with no ceiling on it, and 15 rows is par for the day. Ties break on FEWEST SHAPES USED, then on time, since the same rows off fewer shapes is the tidier run, and a run that clears nothing ranks on shapes survived instead. The points figure on screen (100, 300, 500 and 800 a line, 1,200 for a quad, plus a combo bonus) is there to play against, not to be scored on. Blocks pays at most 1 IQ point a day however long the run goes and however many runs you play, so nobody can grind their way up the standings: the real competition is today’s leaderboard. Sundays narrow the well from 10 columns to 8.
Blocks is a daily falling-shapes puzzle. Everyone plays the same order of shapes on the same day, so the leaderboard compares decisions rather than luck. There is no speed curve: the drop rate is fixed for the whole run, the well is a short 16 rows, and a run ends when the stack reaches the ceiling.
Your run waits for you. Pause whenever, close the tab, come back after lunch: the board is saved and the same run picks up where you left it. On Sundays the well narrows from ten columns to eight. However long a run goes, Blocks pays at most 1 IQ point a day, so a long sitting cannot buy a place in the standings. The day’s leaderboard is where the run actually counts.
